Roelof van Holthe tot Echten, co-founding partner of Oostwaard Advocaten, specializes in international and domestic commercial litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution. He has acted for over 25 years for a diverse range of commercial entities, entrepreneurs and private individuals.
His wide-ranging expertise includes corporate-, contract- and art-related disputes. He has handled a variety of complex financial and commercial disputes, including multi jurisdictional asset tracing exercises , breach of contract claims and shareholder- and partnership disputes.
Roelof is an internally acclaimed expert in the field of art restitution, and he is known for successfully recovering hundreds of artworks looted from the renowned Dutch art dealer, Jacques Goudstikker, during the Second World War, that had been held by the Dutch government for over 50 years. Related to this, Roelof has advised a number of art collectors on title claims and other art-related issues.
His non-contentious work includes undertaking a range of “general counsel” advisory and contractual work. He has handled and negotiated a range of corporate acquisitions and corporate and financial restructuring operations.
Background
Roelof graduated from the University of Utrecht in 1984. He started his career with the law firm of Stibbe, practicing both in Amsterdam and in Brussels. He thereafter joined Baker & McKenzie where he was a partner for 10 years.
